Ablaze is an Australian documentary film which examines the life of the Aboriginal filmmaker and activist Bill Onus. The film is narrated by Onus’s grandson, the opera singer Tiriki Onus.

Themes

The film contains themes of racial discrimination, segregation, the suppression of Aboriginal culture and language and the removal of children from Aboriginal families. Archival black and white photographs depict images of Aboriginal men in chains as well as images of the impact of atomic testing on Aboriginal communities.

Violence

The film contains brief archival footage of a man being knocked out by a tent boxer as well as references to violence against Aboriginal stockmen.

Language

The film contains a single use of the word “damn” as well as a single use of the word “bastard” in the historical context of describing a child born out of wedlock.
