When a classification decision is made for a film in Australia, it applies to all formats of that film provided they are identical or have modifications exempt from classification. This includes:
online (e.g. streaming and transactional services), and
home entertainment (e.g. DVD, 4K UHD and Blu ray).
Computer games
When a decision is made for a computer game in Australia, it applies to all formats of that computer game provided they are identical or have modifications exempt from classification. This includes online, mobile or physical computer games.
Using an IARC Global Rating Tool decision
If you, a developer or a publisher in any region, completes the IARC questionnaire for a game, the IARC Global Rating Tool will produce a classification decision for that game that is displayed on IARC-participating digital games storefronts.
In Australia, this classification decision takes effect when it is published on the National Classification Database (NCD).
You can use the existing decision for a film or computer game provided:
the version you are making available is identical to the version classified, or
if the version is modified, the modifications are exempt from classification.
You can find the decision on the National Classification Database (NCD) using the search bar at the top of this page.
When to seek classification
If the film or computer game you are making available is modified and the modifications are not exempt from classification, the decision does not apply.
